Welcome Back to Spring Term 2: A Healthy and Growing Adventure Awaits!

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to Spring Term 2! We hope you and your family had a restful and enjoyable break. The children are ready for an exciting and vibrant term filled with learning and new experiences. This term, we’ll be focusing on two key themes: Healthy Living and Growing, which will form the foundation of our learning throughout the coming weeks.

This week we will be focusing on the story “Oliver’s Vegetables”. The story follows Oliver as he discovers the joys of healthy eating and the importance of eating vegetables. As we explore this story, we’ll be talking to the children about the difference between healthy and unhealthy foods and discussing why it’s so important to eat nutritious foods that help us grow strong and stay healthy.

Our discussions will focus on identifying healthy foods, like fruits and vegetables, and comparing them to unhealthy options. Through fun activities, the children will learn to make healthier choices and understand how different foods impact our bodies. We’ll even get to have some hands-on fun by creating art projects, sorting food into healthy and unhealthy categories, and learning through games!

In addition to learning about healthy living, we will also be strengthening our literacy skills. The children will be practicing writing their names and labelling pictures, which helps with both letter recognition and fine motor skills.

Our theme of healthy living also ties into our math curriculum, with a focus on counting. We’ll count fruits and vegetables, explore how many servings we need in a day, and even get the children involved in simple addition and subtraction using food items. This is a great way for them to apply their counting skills in real-world contexts.

As always, we encourage a love of reading, and this term, we’ll be placing a special emphasis on reading for pleasure. We’ll share many exciting stories, including books about growing, food, and healthy habits. We want the children to explore books they enjoy and discover the magic of reading. You can support this at home by encouraging your child to read books related to food, health, and nature.

How You Can Help at Home

Here are a few simple ways you can help at home:

  • Talk about healthy eating: Involve your child in choosing and preparing healthy meals. Share your thoughts on the importance of eating a variety of foods.
  • Practice writing: Help your child practice writing their name and labelling things around the house. You can make it fun by labelling food items in the kitchen or organising their toys!
  • Count together: Count fruits, vegetables, or other healthy snacks while you shop or prepare meals together.
  • Read together: Encourage your child to read stories, especially books about food, health, and nature, or any book that sparks their imagination.

We are looking forward to a wonderful and educational Spring Term 2 filled with exploration, growth, and a lot of fun learning experiences.

Thank you for your continued support, and we can’t wait to see how much the children will learn and grow this term.
