Autumn 2 Week 4

It has been another exceptionally busy week in Reception! The children have been learning about seasonal changes by making some autumnal trees in the creative area. Here are some photos of the children in action;

In phonics, the children have been learning the ‘f’, ‘l’ and ‘j’ sounds. Get Squiggling is a fantastic way to introduce the letter names and familiarise the children with things that begin with that letter. You will find this on YouTube.

Autumn 2 Week 3

Last week in Reception, we had an anti-bullying day, where we spoke about ‘being a friend and not a bully’.  A big thank you to all of those parents and carers who were able to attend and those who contributed towards our picnic. The children had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. A big community partnership, which goes a long way and means a lot!

Autumn 2 Week 2

This week in Reception,  our book of the week is the famous ‘We’re Going On A Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen. The children have had fun making puppets and re-enacting the story. Here is an online version of the story;

Last week, we celebrated Aidan’s 5th birthday in Reception! Here are some photos of his amazing birthday cake;

In phonics this week, the children have been learning the ‘ck’ ‘e’ and ‘u’ sounds. Our interventions are well and truly under way. Some children are now starting to write simple words using the sounds they have learned;

Please support us by bringing your child to school on time. Lateness impacts on everybody and learning is lost so please try to be on time.

Autumn 2 Week 1

Welcome back to what is going to be a very busy half term! The children will be learning about ‘Changes’ this half term, with a focus on the seasons of Autumn and Winter.

This week, our focus book has been ‘It Was A Cold Dark Night’ about a hedgehog looking for somewhere suitable to hibernate. Here is a link to the animated story below;

This week in phonics, the children have been learning the ‘o’, ‘c’ and ‘k’ sounds. In maths, the children have been learning about the number 4. In addition to this, they made some lovely fireworks pictures using a variety of different media. Here are some pictures below;

 

Please remember about the importance of reading at home and remember to log into the Collins E Books and Get Epic. Your child has an allocated reading day. Speak to a member of the Reception Team if you need further assistance.

Autumn 1 Week 8

First and foremost, a big thank you to the parents who attended the follow up Meet The Teacher session after school on Tuesday. Hope you found it useful!

This week, the children have been learning about the artist, Lubaina Himid, as part of Black History Month. They replicated her art work called ‘Carpet’ by printing with shapes.

We have also been doing some activities connected with Halloween and Diwali in class

After half term, your child has been assigned a reading day. Please see the reading timetable below to see when your child’s reading day is. We shall try to read with your child and change their books on this particular day;

In addition to this, we now have assigned some online books for your children to read through the ‘Collins Big Cat’ and ‘Get Epic‘ websites. For Collins Big Cat, please find your child’s log in details inside their reading journal and for Get Epic, please use the class code prz8063.

Autumn 1 Week 7

What a busy week it has been! The children have been learning the following sounds this week; m, d and g. We are now teaching the children how to blend and segment simple words using the sounds they have been learning. Here is a video to support with this at home;

The children have been learning counting songs such as Five Little Ducks, Five Speckled Frogs, Five Currant Buns and Five Little Men in A Flying Saucer. Here is a link below;

We would like to invite you in after school next week from 3:30 – 3:45 on Tuesday 21st October, so we can discuss a few things, such as Dojo’s, reading expectations and other important information.

Finally, a gentle reminder that the nurses will be in on Monday 20th October to do the height and weight check. If you do NOT want your child to be measured, please speak to a member of the Reception team or the office staff.

Autumn 1 Week 6

This week in Reception, the children have been introduced to the story of ‘Two Grannies‘ by Floella Benjamin. Please see a link below to an online version of the story;

The children have been drawing some lovely pictures of their families and talking about their family members through circle times. In phonics, the children have been learning the following letters and sounds; p, i and n. You can play games such as ‘I Spy’ to help your child learn these sounds. Please use the following sheet for guidance on the progression of sounds;

Please remember about the importance of reading at home. We will try to change their reading for pleasure books twice a week and their phonics books once a week. Please encourage your child to;

  • talk about what they see in the pictures
  • make links from the book to their own experiences
  • enjoy a storybook every day, making it part of their daily routine

Autumn 1 Week 5

This week, the children have been introduced to the story of ‘So Much’. We have spoken about families and how families come in all different shapes and sizes. Here is a link to the story below;

In phonics, the children have been introduced to the following letters and sounds; s, a, t and p. They have been learning the letter names, sounds and things that they begin with. We find ‘get Squiggling’ a wonderful programme, which engages the children. Here is an episode below;

We have been enjoying the beautiful sunshine and spending a lot of our time playing in the outdoor learning environment. Please bear in mind that this learning space is set up at the beginning of the day and resources should not be touched, unless they are put away as they were set up in the morning. Also, please be patient at home time, as WE call your child’s name for collection. The safety of your child is paramount.

Finally, if you haven’t already done so, please let the office know if you do NOT want your child immunised against flu or measured for the height and weight check coming up in October.

Autumn 1 Week 3

What a busy week it has been in Reception! The children have been busy exploring watercolour paints to make some fantastic pieces of art, using the Numicon pieces to make pictures, playing with jigsaws, practising writing their names and playing in the home corner to name but a few things! Here are some photographs of the children in action;

       

We shall begin giving out reading for pleasure books next week (week beginning 22nd September). Please help us by providing a book bag for your child which will fit a book inside.

Just some gentle reminders…

  • Remember to put your child’s name in everything to avoid loss
  • Remember to ensure your child has a change of clothing in case of any toilet accidents
  • The flu immunisation will take place on Tuesday 7th October. Please notify us if you do NOT want your child immunised.
  • Please return the height and weight letters if you do NOT want your child measured. This check will take place on Monday 20th October.
  • Please be patient at 3:15 when you come to collect your child. The safety of your child is paramount

Phonics Workshop For Reception Parents
