Finally time for a break!

Firstly wishing all the families and friends of Year 5 a lovely Christmas break and an excellent new year! Hopefully it is a very restful and wholesome break!

A little recap on this past week,
Congratulations to the children for the wonderful Christmas performance! So lovely to see such a big support from all of you as well.

Year 5, Calipso had an amazing time at the South London Gallery where they went to see a exhibition of installation art from prominent artist Pope L. They created their own art works in small groups and learnt about representation in modern art. A great time was had!!

Meanwhile, Ulysses were getting their funk on with their class Christmas party where we witnessed some amazing dance moves and ate till we couldn’t anymore!

Overall a very lovely and wholesome week!!

 This week in Year 5

This week in Year 5 we have continued to study WW1, next week we will be writing diary entries as English soldiers living in the trenches. As part of this learning all children have been set LAC tasks which they should have been completing all half term.

In maths we are continuing working with Fractions, as part of preparing children for SATs and supporting their access to learning we are recommending 15 minutes of Timestables Rockstars everyday and will be checking children are completing this. These skills will continue to be essential for year 5 and 6 maths and all children have room for improvement in this area.

We continue to practise for the upcoming Christmas performance which will take place on Tuesday the 19th December.

This week our nursery buzzed with excitement as our little ones enjoyed a day filled with snowy fun inspired by “The Snowman” story.

The children crafted their own snowmen using cotton balls, buttons, and colorful paper.

We used the Tales Toolkit to retell the story and we also carried out a melting snowman science experiment. We used ice cubes and salt to observe the gradual melting process. This activity introduced basic scientific concepts and sparked wonder about the world around them.

The children also participated in a lively “Snowman Freeze Dance,” giggling and twirling to wintry tunes. This session promoted body coordination and it can also be carried out at home with parents!

We would really appreciate it if you can talk to your child about what they did in the nursery setting this week, what did they enjoy the most and perhaps make their very own snowman using some arts / crafts or pen & paper at home!

Please continue to go over these letter sounds to support your children in using them confidently and securely. This will enable their reading and writing. Don’t forget to use your online library at Big Cat ebooks – your username and password can be found in your child’s reading record.

Maths Autumn Term

We have been learning to count, recognise and work within numbers from 0 to 20. Below you will find some links to helpful videos and websites to support your child’s continuous learning.

Shapes are everywhere! To support your child’s ongoing learning, you can challenge them to Shape Hunt the environment – can you see a circle, square, triangle, rectangle? What shape is the bus stop sign? How many sides does the square have? Can you see another shape like it?
